WAC in Bengaluru 9th – 13th December 2010

WAC in Bengaluru 9th – 13th December 2010

08.02.2011 | This was definitely the largest and most diverse WAC - World Ayurveda Congress to have taken place so far. 5000 delegates and 300.000 visitors made their appearance during the five day event.

It was packed with a wide range of sessions, an enormous exhibition including an education section sponsored by the Indian Government and a very vibrant business to business meeting room which was alive from morning to evening. At the opening session Ravidas Korn our Vice President made a presentation to Ms Jalaja the past Secretary of AYUSH and thanked her for her enormous contribution to the globalisation of Ayurveda over the last two years. The EUAA was very well represented and we were pleased to get together with Albertino Amandio from Portugal who will host the September EUAA meeting, Mr Mark Keister from France who has been invited to participate as a presenter at the next Celebration of Ayurveda to take place on February 19th 2011 and Ms Britta Herman from Austria who has contributed so much to the EUAA’s Education group. Dr Riesz from Hungary headed a huge delegation of members who made presentations at their various sessions.

The International Meeting which took place at the beautiful, tranquil ashram of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on 9th and 10th December were highly focused and produced initiatives regarding globalization which will be communicated to AYUSH for their action or otherwise.  Dr Harsha Gramminger chaired one of the final sessions at short notice ending with a perfect summing up of the important points arising. Mostly this was an occasion for getting together with friends from around the globe with a feeling that we are working together on common themes for the future of Ayurveda. Far more countries from around the globe were actively involved in this fourth WAC than ever before. The plenary sessions highlighted the challenges that all countries including India are facing in the expansion of Ayurveda. We are very grateful to His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar for the gift of hosting the event and the kindness of those at Art of Living who took such good care of us when we were there. WAC was organized by Vijnan Bharati who were our partners for EWAC 2009 in Baden-Baden/Germany last year. They did an amazing job at organizing this faultless mela. We would like to thank Jayakumarji the head of the Vijnan Bharati organizing committee, Dr Geeta Krishnan and his dedicated team including Dr Sunil Kumar, Dr Kiran Lal, Ranjit Puranik and Miss Deepali, and we are looking forward to working together again in 2012.

Meetings In Delhi – December 2010

CCRAS

Dr Ramesh Babu DG CCRAS (Central Council of Research into Ayurveda and Siddha) was receptive to receiving research proposals from around the globe but declared that the funding policy had changed in as much as CCRAS would provide matched funding for approved projects up to a limit not specified. We would encourage those interested in carrying out Ayurvedic Research to contact us for advice before putting in their application.

AYUSH

Dr Anil Kumar Secretary Dept AYUSH made time for a short meeting together with Dr SK Sharma in attendance. It was clear that Dr Kumar will take a completely different approach to running AYUSH to his predecessor Ms Jalaja who achieved so much during her tenure who was extremely supportive of EUAA. Having said that, we are optimistic that he will pursue the question of THMPD, the new published syllabuses on the WHO homepage, globalization of Ayurveda and research proposals. He made the suggestion that we should post our proposals through the national missions which we will do in due course.
